15 hours per week | Monday to Friday | Approximately 11:00am to 2:00pm | Permanent | All Year Round

Salary: Up to £12.21 per hour (National Living Wage age-dependent)

Shooting Stars Nurseries is seeking a reliable and enthusiastic Assistant Nursery Cook to support our kitchen operations at our Kings Norton setting. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys preparing nutritious food, maintaining high hygiene standards, and contributing to a positive environment for young children.

Working alongside our Nursery Cook, you'll help provide balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0-5 years while ensuring the kitchen and nursery environment remain clean, safe and welcoming.

Your Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation & Service

  • Assist the Nursery Cook with preparing and serving healthy meals and snacks
  • Support the management of dietary requirements and food allergies
  • Maintain high standards of food hygiene, safety and presentation
  • Help ensure children receive nutritious, balanced meals each day

Kitchen Operations

  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, utensils and food preparation areas
  • Assist with stock checks, stock rotation and storage of deliveries
  • Support the smooth day-to-day running of the nursery kitchen
  • Follow food safety procedures and kitchen protocols at all times

Cleaning & Housekeeping

  • Complete daily cleaning schedules to a high standard
  • Support general housekeeping duties within the nursery where required
  • Ensure a clean, safe and hygienic environment throughout the setting
  • Assist with waste disposal and recycling procedures

Health & Safety

  • Adhere to Food Hygiene, COSHH and Health & Safety requirements
  • Support routine safety checks and risk management procedures
  • Maintain excellent cleanliness standards across all work areas

What We're Looking For

Essential

  • Previous experience within a commercial catering, kitchen or food preparation environment
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene and food safety practices
  • Reliable, organised and able to work efficiently
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team
