Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship – Kennington pre-school (Term Time Only)

Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship at Kennington pre-school, Kennington, Oxfordshire.

Requirements;

• A Level 2 Childcare qualification would be desirable
• 12 months experience in a nursery setting
• You must be able to gain a clear DBS
• Preferably have GCSE grades A*-C or 4-9 in Maths and English, or equivalent or willing to work towards them

Kennington pre-school is a wonderful place for young children to learn and grow. We operate Monday to Friday 9-3pm term time only. The pre-school itself is located on the Avenue, on the grounds of St Swithuns School, although we are independent, and this is in the heart of the beautiful village of Kennington.

Kennington pre-school has been running since 1969 (previously known as Kennington playgroup). In 2017 we became a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO). We employ several qualified staff to care and teach the children daily, but the charity itself is run by a voluntary committee. Being an independent charity means that we can keep our costs low so childcare remains affordable and that we can focus on what people in our community need childcare wise.

We offer a safe and nurturing environment for children aged 2-5 years old. The staff are highly qualified and dedicated to providing the best care and education for each and every child. We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance, which focuses on the individual needs and interests of each child. This allows the children to learn and develop at their own pace, while also encouraging them to explore and discover new things.

Transport to and from the setting is good with regular busses every 15 minutes and only 15 minutes away from town.

Your duties and responsibilities will include;

• Take responsibility for a designated group of key children, supporting their individual care, learning and development needs.
• Observe, monitor and record children’s development and progress in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework.
• Plan and provide age- and stage-appropriate activities and experiences that support children’s learning, development and interests.
• Work proactively and use own initiative to identify and respond to children’s individual needs.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date children’s journals and developmental records, ensuring progress and achievements are regularly documented.
• Support children with their personal care needs, including nappy changing, toileting, dressing and general hygiene, as required.
• Assist with mealtimes, promoting healthy eating, independence and positive social interactions.
• Build positive and professional relationships with parents, carers and other professionals, communicating effectively about children’s wellbeing, development and progress.
• Work collaboratively as part of the nursery team, contributing to effective teamwork and a positive working environment.
• Liaise appropriately with the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and follow all safeguarding policies and procedures, reporting concerns in accordance with nursery requirements.
• Ensure all interactions and activities promote children’s safety, wellbeing, inclusion and development.
• Contribute to maintaining a welcoming, stimulating and secure environment in which children can learn and thrive.
• Demonstrate a proactive approach to supporting the wider nursery team and undertaking additional duties as required.

Hours;

• Kennington pre-school is open from 8:45am – 3:30pm Monday to Friday (Term Time only)
• The successful candidate will be required to work 29 hours per week, 4 days per week
