Job Title: Nursery Housekeeper / Cleaner
Location: North Yorkshire
Hours: Full-time (Up to 20 hours per week Monday - Friday)
Role Purpose
To support the smooth running of the nursery by maintaining high standards of cleanliness, hygiene, and organisation throughout the setting. The Nursery Housekeeper plays a vital role in ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for children, families, and staff, particularly during busy parts of the day when room staff are focused on ratios and care.
Key Responsibilities
Laundry & Washing
- Washing nursery laundry including bedding, cloths, towels and bibs
- Sorting, folding and putting away clean laundry appropriately
Kitchen & Mealtime Support
- Rinsing pots, plates and utensils after breakfast and tea times
- Loading and unloading the dishwasher
- Cleaning and sanitising meal areas after all meals
- Thoroughly cleaning highchairs, tables, chairs and surrounding areas after mealtimes
- Preparing, heating and dishing up tea and delivering meals to rooms as required
Baby Care Equipment
- Milton sterilising all baby bottles and drink bottles
- Making bottles as required, following nursery procedures
General Cleaning & Hygiene
- Cleaning throughout the nursery during the day, including after messy play and activities
- Supporting room teams by keeping shared spaces clean when staff are required in ratios
- Keeping entrances, corridors and communal areas clean, tidy and safe at all times
- Cleaning down outdoor play equipment regularly
- Carrying out general cleaning tasks as needed to maintain nursery standards
Stock, Deliveries & Waste
- Putting away deliveries (including food shopping and supplies) correctly and safely
- Taking bins out during the day and ensuring waste areas are kept clean and organised
Health, Safety & Safeguarding
- Following all hygiene, food safety and infection control procedures
- Using cleaning products safely and in line with COSHH guidance
- Maintaining awareness of safeguarding responsibilities and nursery policies at all times
About you:
Essential
- Reliable, organised and able to work on own initiative
- Good understanding of cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Able to work safely around children in a nursery environment
- Flexible, helpful attitude and a team player
- DBS will be required
Desirable
- Previous experience in a nursery, school, care or similar environment
- Basic food hygiene awareness (training can be provided)
