Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship – Staunton-on-Wye Pre-School & Kids Club (Term Time Only)
Shoots Training are looking for an enthusiastic, reliable and hardworking individual to complete their Level 3 Childcare Apprenticeship at Staunton-on-Wye Pre-School & Kids Club, Hereford.
Staunton-on-Wye Pre-School is set in the beautiful Herefordshire countryside, Staunton-on-Wye Pre-School opened in 1984. Since 2010, we have been in our current, eco-friendly, premises. Our home is light and spacious with continuous access to its own large, secure outside play area.
Our team of highly-qualified Early Years Practitioners follow the EYFS 'Statutory Framework' to develop children's learning. They also work with the children as part of our ‘Breakfast Club’ and ‘After-School’ Club’, which is very popular with children attending neighbouring Staunton-on-Wye Primary School.
We are a charity led by a volunteer committee where parent and carer participation is welcomed and appreciated.
We are open during term time Monday 8.00am to 4.30pm, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 8.00am to 5.30pm and Friday 8.00am to 4.30pm. In addition to caring for children from 9 months, we also offer wrap-around care for primary school children.
Activities include:

- Sensory play - sand, water, shaving foam, play dough etc.
- Construction - lego, magnetic blocks, cogs and wheel, loose parts play etc.
- jigsaw puzzles
- role play and dressing up
- puppets
- book corner
- cooking
- small world play - Farm, zoo, fire station, dolls house, dinosaurs, space, trains, pirates, cars etc.
- We arrange day trips that have included farm parks, theatre, Madley Environmental Centre.
Your duties and responsibilities will include;
We are looking for a motivated and passionate individual to join our team as a Level 3 Early Years Apprentice.
This is an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience while working towards your Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification.
You will play a key role in supporting children’s development, ensuring a safe and stimulating environment, and working as part of a team to provide high-quality Early Years education.
Key Responsibilities
Childcare & Supervision:
- Assist in the daily care and supervision of children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Engage children in age-appropriate play, activities, and learning experiences.
- Support children’s physical, emotional, and social development.
Learning & Development:
- Help plan and deliver activities that promote early years learning and development (EYFS framework).
- Encourage communication, social interaction, and problem-solving skills.
- Support language, literacy, numeracy, and motor skills through play.
Health & Hygiene:
- Assist with feeding, changing nappies, and toileting as needed.
- Ensure a clean and safe environment by following hygiene and safety procedures.
- Promote healthy eating and physical activities.
Teamwork & Communication:
- Work closely with nursery practitioners, teachers, and parents.
- Provide feedback on children’s progress and any concerns.
- Follow nursery policies and procedures, including safeguarding
Essential Skills & Qualifications:
Qualifications (Desirable but not always required):
- Passion for working with children and a commitment to their development.
- A willingness to learn and complete the Level 3 Early Years Educator apprenticeship.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Patience, empathy, and a positive attitude.
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Maths (preferred but not always essential).
- Ability to follow policies and procedures, including safeguarding and child protection.
Skills & Personal Attributes:
- Previous experience working in an early years setting (preferred but not required).
- Basic understanding of child development and the EYFS framework.
- First Aid, Food Hygiene, or Safeguarding training (if already completed).

Requirements;
- A Level 2 Childcare qualification would be desirable
- Previous experience in a similar role or responsibilities
- Preferably have GCSE grades A*-C or 4-9 in Maths and English, or equivalent or willing to work towards them
Hours;
- Staunton-on-Wye Pre-School & Kids Club is open from 8:00am – 5:30pm Monday to Friday (Term Time Only)
- The successful candidate will be required to work 30 hours per week
