Nursery Cook prepares nutritious, balanced meals and snacks for children aged 0-5, ensuring all dietary, allergy, and cultural requirements are met. Responsibilities include maintaining high food hygiene standards (HACCP), managing kitchen stock, ordering supplies, and cleaning to Environmental Health standards. They often work 9am-5pm, Monday-Friday, and need a Food Hygiene Certificate.
Key Responsibilities:
- Menu Planning & Cooking: Preparing breakfast, lunch, and snacks, ensuring meals are appealing and nutritious for young children.
- Dietary Needs: Managing special dietary requirements, including allergies, intolerances, and religious/cultural preferences.
- Health & Safety: Maintaining a hygienic kitchen, including cleaning equipment, recording food temperatures, and following Health & Safety regulations.
- Stock Management: Ordering food and supplies, maintaining inventory, and rotating stock to reduce waste.
- Compliance: Ensuring all food preparation meets Environmental Health Inspector standards (aiming for a 5-star rating).
- Collaboration: Working with nursery staff to coordinate meal times and sometimes cooking with children.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Food Hygiene and Safety Certificate (Level 2 or 3).
- An enhanced DBS check.
- Experience in catering for large groups, particularly children.
- Knowledge of nutrition for children and allergy management.
Typical Working Conditions:
- Monday to Friday, from 7 am and 1:30pm.
