Nursery Third in Charge 
Location: Chestnut House Kindergarten
Salary: £27,040 per annum
Hours: Full-time, 40 hours per week

Chestnut House Kindergarten is looking for a passionate Nursery Third in Charge/Senior Room Leader to join the team. This role is ideal for an experienced Room Leader ready to progress in their career or a current Third in Charge seeking a fresh opportunity in a welcoming and supportive environment.

This is a full-time, year-round position (not term-time only) within a nursery that has three children’s rooms. Applicants must hold a full and relevant Level 3 childcare qualification and be passionate about providing outstanding care and education.

As a Third in Charge, you will receive comprehensive training to equip you with the skills and confidence to take on additional responsibilities beyond those of a Room Leader. These include but are not limited to; acting as a Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead, taking on keyholder duties with opening and closing responsibilities, and stepping up to support the Deputy and Manager by fulfilling more senior roles during their annual leave.

Chestnut House are a 65 place setting made up of 8 cosy welcoming rooms across the 0-5 year old age grooup. Our staff pride themselves on parent partnerships and working togther with children and families to create exciting ativities and opportunities. At the nursery we have a pet tortoise who joined us last year and is a firm favourite with the children, parents and staff!

As a Nursery Third in Charge, you will:

  • Provide stimulating and purposeful experiences, environments and resources to children, that are appropriate to their age and stage of development
  • Enhance the all-around daily needs of children, including their physical, intellectual, social and emotional development
  • Assist staff in updating the EyLog system and their child learning journals with the highest quality
  • Promote respect and credibility for this position by leading as a role model with impartiality and consistency
  • Assist with embedding an effective key person approach to enable children to form secure attachments and identify training or development needs for staff
  • Maintain accurate records and accounts relating to children and staff on EyMan system and on file
  • Ensure the safety and wellbeing of every child, staff, parent and visitor at all times
  • Understand and ensure that the requirements of the statutory framework for the EYFS are met

As a Nursery Third in Charge, you will need:

  • Full and relevant Level 3 in Childcare qualification - Essential
  • Over 1 year’s experience working in Early Years - Essential
  • Over 6 months’ experience working in a senior position - Desirable
  • Sound knowledge of Ofsted expectations to achieve a Good or Outstanding rating - Desirable
  • Knowledge of the statutory framework for the EYFS and regulatory requirements - Essential
  • Fluent in written and spoken English - Essential
